The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) is an intergovernmental research organization based in Braga, Portugal. It is dedicated to research in nanoscience and nanotechnology and deploys world-class facilities and a highly multidisciplinary team to address global challenges. The laboratory focuses on high-impact sectors including nanoelectronics, photonics, advanced materials, and semiconductor technologies. INL acts as a strategic bridge between fundamental research and market-ready industrial applications, driving innovation across global health, mobility, digital transformation, and energy ecosystems.

Joint Technology Development by INL and Fraunhofer IZM

Collaborating with Fraunhofer IZM, INL is pioneering the 3D heterogeneous integration of 2D Materials into next generation biosensing platforms. The joint project combines an INL-microfabricated Graphene Field-Effect Transistor (EG-gFET) biosensor array and an advanced INL-designed 180 nm CMOS front-end chiplet from XFAB. Integrated by Fraunhofer IZM using Through-Silicon Vias (TSVs), Redistribution Layers (RDLs), and a top-mounted microfluidic system, this setup enables high-speed, multi-channel analytes interrogation for real time diagnostics.
